If you had food stuck in your teeth, a tag hanging out of your shirt, or your fly open – you’d want someone to tell you. Sure, you’d feel a little embarrassed, but you’d be grateful… right?
So why don’t we want the same for our businesses? Especially when the person pointing it out is a trained professional.
It’s one thing if a stranger notices a stain on your shirt. It’s another if the person noticing it is a professional dry cleaner. Their perspective comes with expertise and a solution.
The same applies in business. You don’t hire a therapist to judge you, but to equip you with tools to move forward. In the same way advisors/consultants/mentors aren’t there to criticize… they’re there to help you advance.
Here’s the formula:
Your problem + their expertise = a solution you wouldn’t have arrived at on your own – or at least not as quickly.
There’s real power in seeking perspective, listening, and assessing whether someone has the capability to help you grow. However, the real breakthrough comes when you commit to letting them do just that.
