Welcome back to The Workaround. I’m Bob 👋
I’m here to make you think, smile, and discover a shortcut to success or a trap to avoid.
This is one of those periodic pieces for Paid subscribers. The paywall is my way of ensuring I don’t scare people off, see if they want me to go there, and a challenge to get outside my comfort zone.
These posts get pretty deep, a bit weird, and a little woo.
Note that 100% of the proceeds go toward new reader acquisition, so your subscription dollar pays it forward to others.
“You take the blue pill… the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill…you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
Last week, I shared my story of learning the hard way—through five pivots in four years—that it was time to release the role of startup founder, stop wrestling with the universe, and figure out a new way of going with the flow.
I mentioned the awkwardness of explaining this new occupation to people; something like, “Working on being a better human, and testing myself through business.”
You might wonder what the hell this means. Is there a paycheck in it? What are the KPIs? What does his family think?
Some readers may have leaned in a bit with curiosity. These are the people I’m writing for today.
A handful of times in my life, I’ve gotten to experience great joy in helping people see a sliver of something more: Tears of release in learning that the voice in their head is not them. The thrill of getting out of their comfort zone to create and share their art. The courage to make a career leap into something that makes their soul sing. The relief in learning they’re not crazy for experiencing something outside the norm.
In each of these cases, I’ve been able to help twist a valve that releases more consciousness into their lives, and thus into the entire world. And as we know, the world could use some more consciousness these days…
I helped unlock these friends by sharing my experiences. Much of what I learned was sparked by other individuals, both living and dead, who dared to do the same.
Nobody in the business world ever told me the kinds of stuff I’m going to share here, as directly as I’m going to share it. This post is about how I peeked behind the curtain of “normal reality” and found something more profound in life, through exploring my mind. My intent is for some of you, dear readers, to be intrigued enough by my experience to scratch at the corner of your reality.
The post from here is for paid subscribers because you need a kernel of intent to get value from this. This ain’t a toilet read…
Reading further is like taking the red pill from The Matrix. By paying for it and reading on, you’re showing intent. That’s a way of sending a message to the universe—to yourself—that you’re interested in going down the rabbit hole.
